WORLD CUP FINAL, LITTLE LEO THE SEQUEL

The Jules Rimet Trophy origins & sequel

Back in 1930, the inaugural World Cup was hosted by the football fabulous Uruguay.
The final was played in front of just under 70,000 at Stadio Centenario, Montevideo. The hosts versus Argentina, played and competed for what was the Jules Rimet Trophy
Not the FIFA World Cup. Not even this afternoon’s Johnny and Donnie Trophy.
M. Jules Rimet was the incredibly visionary soul who devised a competition which would bring together the finest football nations from across the world to play in a tournament hosted singularly by one of the competing nations.
Yes he was FIFA’s President, sat in place for over 30-years, however FIFA were not even part of the branding. Where today FIFA are the global leaders in being inside every fibre of what makes a “World Cup Finals” The tournaments original brand, which got lost around 1982, Without typically one person voting for the FIFA World Cup.
So as we draw towards closing in on a century for the World Cup, it’s Book Covers finals are Latin Finals. Uruguay vs Argentina back in 1930, Spain vs Argentina today. Something you’d be sure Jules Rimet would be so utterly proud of.
The explanation for why there is now a World Cup Trophy Version [2.0] is owing to M. Jules Rimet mandating that if a nation were ever to win it 3 times, they kept it forever. Brasil are the eternal holders and custodians of the Jules Rimet Trophy.
Having won it all originally in 1958, retained in 1962 and then set the world alight at the greatest, finest and dandiest ever sporting event in history; #Mexico1970
Now imagine that in today’s modern FIFA - M. Jules Rimet literally give away FIFA’s greatest, most valuable and finest asset.
What say you Johnny from the Bronx???

Commissioned for #Germany1974 – the very moment it all started going pear shaped? Money runneth over…
Here’s to a fabulous and famous World Cup Final down on the pitch this afternoon.
A World Cup Final which is incident free. That the referee - like for all sporting occasions - is anonymous. Doesn’t play any part in the spectacle which undoubtedly will unfold. Right up to the Final Whistle. Mame still unknown, please sweet baby Jesus. Light a candle folks.
VAR, football’s Pandora’s Box moment, does not rudely intervene. Again. We count Twenty Two players out; count all Twenty Two back. Come the final whistle. For this I have my doubts(
On a very personal note please do watch out most especially for the FIFA game day official sat in a chair towards the edge of the permitter wall, wearing headphones right on the hallway line. Exactly behind where the 4th Official will introduce all substitutions;)
This “Unusual World Cup” as I have tagged it before that famous $1,200 USD football was ever kicked in Mexico City back on June 11th
Good gosh that sounds like so long ago it brings us back to the very eve of Russia 2018 when Johhny not from the Bronx announced Canada, the US and Mexico would play co-hosts in 2026 – is bound to throw up one or two final ‘unusual moments’ this afternoon.
Watch this space come 17h 30…
Today we do know book ends the first century of such, a one of rarity this.
As it pits the current EURO Champs, against the current Copa América Champ. We know the backdrop [s], way too many elements to discuss here.
Ones which will add to the palpable tension all around the “New York Stadium.” Up in the stands – much emanating from the ‘DJ VIP’ section directly above the halfway line – right down to every blade of grass on the pitch.
Then add in for extra spice, and flavour we may well be witnessing one of the greatest ever moments in all of world sport. Little Leo walking off a World Cup field Finally with quite possibly a World Cup Trophy in each arm. Sit Down Walt Disney.
* Messi has already defied gravity at 39-years old. Then factor in Roger Milla; the Cameroonian icon and #Italia1990 legend was over 42 years old way back then. The eldest ever outfield player to grace a World Cup pich he Mr. Milla.
Little Leo the Return has a sorta ring to it, doesn’t it. Adidas.
As you take in all around, please do have a thought for an undoubted visionary and mercurial Frenchman; M. Jules Rimet.
Who exactly a hundred years ago set about weaving some proper global magic. Unlike this current catastrophe unfolding beneath our very own eyes.
If ever a moment existed on dear Mother Earth for someone to truly bring this beautiful world together it is Jules Ernest Séraphin Valentin Rimet.
Rimet hailed from a tiny French hamlet, Theuley. Even today the Theuley population barely touches 100 residents.
That irony is not lost on me
Cheers
